Guest Post: 5 Fruitful Seeds to Plant for an Abundant Marriage

pexels-photo-40525

WOW!! The seasons are changing and we are upon the beauty of autumn once again. This is the season for reflection as it also reminds us that the end of another year is right in front of us. I love to see the plentiful fruits and vegetables that are harvested in the fall. I think about the farmers who planned, planted and nurtured their crops all through the spring and summer to now enjoy the fruits of their labor that will sustain them through the winter and beyond. Much like the farmer, we need to plan, plant and nurture our marriages to reap our own joyous harvests. Here are 5 fruitful seeds to plant for your own abundant marriage.

  1. Plan your planting season  No one is rushing you to get married but you. You have a strong voice in when you get married. No, you cannot bring your husband right when you think you want him, but trust that when he comes it is the best time. From that point it is up to you to say what timing is best. Be sure that your soil (your heart) is fertilized and able to receive plenty of water (mentors) and sunlight (education).
  2. Know your crop  If you handle number one properly, knowing your crop (your mate) will flow. The man you dated and the man you were engaged to will continue to grow and evolve as your husband. Pay attention to his growth patterns. Notice the changes in his thoughts and his health so you can be prepared to add some extra food (encouragement and compliments), vitamins (quality time) and maybe even a plant stabilizer (taking on extra chores and responsibilities) for extra support.
  3. Stop hating on your neighbors corn field when you plant pumpkin seeds  Did you follow step number two? You must know your crop in order to appreciate the fruit it bears. There are other men who will be the same age, have the same career and be with his woman for the same length of time as your man, but they are still two different men with two different journeys. Yes, farming (aka marriage) can be laborious, tiresome and annoying, but you chose to be a farmer and you picked the seeds (aka your mate). Be patient and know that the right amount love and nurturing will strengthen your relationship in due season. Would you induce labor at 5 months because you’re tired of being pregnant?
  4. Who are your field hands? It’s ok. As we mentioned in step three, marriage can be tiresome. You are entitled to your true feelings. What is important is how you respond to those feelings. How do you release your tension and clear your mind? We all need strong and loyal confidantes in our corner. Having one or two close girlfriends or a family member to confide in is ok. You may even need to involve HIS closest friend or family member to step in and have a conversation when appropriate. Just be certain that you go back to him when you’re in a calm state to address the issues so you can keep the weeds and beetles from destroying what you’ve created.
  5. Share your harvest!! One of the great things about marriage is being able to share it with the world. I love seeing genuinely happy couples having a private loving moment or laughing infectiously with each other. It is also a great benefit to share stories of what you’ve overcome with another couple that is going through a dry season. Be mindful of sharing while you’re still going through. If they aren’t your field hands, they don’t belong in your crop. They can meet you at the farmer’s market with the rest of the world!

As you grow and think like a farmer, you will reap the rewards of the farmer. Trust that every great thing takes time to develop. Learn through the process and watch your harvest increase with each passing year.

Guest Post: Plan the Perfect Honeymoon with Honeyfund

HoneyfundxDetailsMadeSimple

Marrying your better half is the first step in starting a beautiful life together. As a couple, embarking on this journey will have its ups and downs, but you’ll know if you are right for one another before you step foot on the altar on your big day.

This courageous journey is exciting to say the least. And the adventure begins on the glorious honeymoon vacation that you’ll take soon after you recite your vows during the marriage ceremony.

Paying for a wedding is an expensive proposition. In order to have the wedding of your dreams, you took every chance that you had to raise capital or save money so that your big day would be perfect when the time came. You should put forth the same amount of effort to raise funds for your honeymoon.

Your honeymoon is important because it’s the first thing you’ll do together as a married couple. So you want this happy occasion to be perfect!

How can you make it perfect? Honeyfund, the crowdfunding website dedicated to help happy couples raise funds for honeymoon bliss, is an extremely popular way to receive money needed to pay for the perfect trip. It’s the whole reason why the website was created in the first place.

Honeyfund x DetailsMadeSimple

Honeyfund’s Humble Beginnings

Although this website is finally starting to catch the public’s attention, most people still have never heard of this dynamic honeymoon registry. And that’s a shame because it’s changing the way that we receive wedding gifts for the better.

The founders of this website created it originally because they didn’t have enough money to go on their dream honeymoon. Instead of having a less than satisfactory experience during this momentum occasion, Sara and Josh Margulis decided to take matters into their own hands. Before long, they set up a honeymoon registry that helped soon to be married couples like themselves receive “sponsorships” in lieu of traditional gifts. And this allowed them to get the money to pay for their dream honeymoon.

For one reason or another, couples are often hesitant to ask for “sponsorships” on this honeymoon registry. Some just aren’t that familiar with crowdfunding. Others feel that they shouldn’t receive money instead of traditional wedding gifts.

Do you need money to pay for your honeymoon? Try Honeyfund today and experience the same benefits as thousands of others in your shoes.

Is Honeyfund the Best Honeymoon Registry to Meet My Crowdfunding Needs?

We can’t think of a better honeymoon registry besides Honeyfund. This site is perfect because it lets you use its platform for free. It’s unique and has many wonderful features. Our favorite is the honeymoon itinerary planner. It lets you add specific activities to your crowdfunding page. And then your guests can make donations based on the activities that they would like to pay for.

Plumfund x DetailsMadeSimple

Other Crowdfunding Benefits

If you intend to raise funds for other important milestones during your marriage, we recommend using the Honeyfund sister site called Plumfund.

There are many ways to take advantage of crowdfunding. For married couples, here are a few of our favorites:

  • pay off student loans
  • raise money for a down payment on a new home
  • pay off outstanding credit card debt
  • raise money for in vitro fertilization

Are you ready to take the perfect honeymoon vacation? Honeyfund will help make your dreams a reality.

Guest Post: Two of a Kind Rentals

Two of a Kind Rentals | Details Made Simple

We had the pleasure of working with the awesome gals at Two of a Kind Rentals and we just had to get them to do a guest blog post on DMS.com. They have the most beautiful collection of modern furniture rentals that are sure to make your big day look ah-mazing, so here is goes!

Oh, and don’t miss the special offer at the end. 😉

Two of a Kind Rentals | Details Made Simple

Our story:

Two of a Kind Rentals is a modern and thoughtfully curated collection of furniture that’s based right here in Long Island City. We’re trusted by brands like Google, The Food Network and Team USA Olympics for events that matter most to them.

We’re experienced in the tech, fashion and marketing spaces, providing furniture for events like conferences, team training events, marketing events, trade shows, holiday parties and of course…weddings!

The company was originally launched a few years back in order to solve a problem we couldn’t help but notice in the industry. We knew that rentals such as light-up bars and vintage furniture were really common, but modern pieces were surprisingly hard to come by.

Our rental shop includes a wide variety of modern elements that translate well across many types of events. Some of our favorite items are the industrial metal pipe wooden tables, tufted seating collections, rawhide rugs, mid-century modern seating collections, and pub tables and chairs.

Two of a Kind Rentals | Details Made Simple

One suggestion for clients:

We often get asked by clients, “What’s the easiest way to elevate an event without spending a fortune?”

One way to easily elevate an event without spending a fortune is to create meaningful assortments of furniture for guests to lounge during the event. These could be made from one or two sofas, side chairs or ottomans, a printed rug and a handful of intricate side tables. Easy add-ons to the standard seating area are shelving units with small decor, potted plants or terrariums.

A gift for you:

Since we’re big fans of Details Made Simple we’re offering their clients a 20% vendor discount off of the rental collection (mention this post). Check out the collection at www.twoofakindnyc.com! We also have table table top decor rentals and ceremony structures and Chuppahs!

The Role of the Venue Manager, the Maitre’D, and a Wedding Day Coordinator

DOC

As a Wedding Day Coordinator we get asked all the time: What is the difference between a Venue Manager, a Maitre’D and a DOC? My venue comes with a Maitre’D, do I really need a Wedding Day Coordinator?

While each one can play an important role in the overall success of an event, sometimes it can be confusing to understand what function each person is responsible for, so here’s the skinny of who does what!

The Venue Manager

The Venue Manager or Sales Manager is typically the person that gave you the tour of the venue initially, reviewed the contractual details, and sold you the package for your big day. The manager usually supervises the many departments and staff that play a part in making an event successful at the venue. Usually once the contract is signed, your wedding details get handed over to the Maitre D’ who will be there day of.

The Maitre D’

The Maitre D’ who is sometimes referred to as the Captain or even the on-site Event Coordinator (can be super misleading), is the person who manages their team to make sure all goes well on the catering side of the wedding. In essence he or she is the headwaiter who directs communication between the kitchen and the reception space allowing for a great dining experience. The Maitre d’ assigns the table orders and meal delivery to the wait staff, keeps the chef on time, and manages the meal flow though out the night.  This is the person who will manage and answer any meal related issues or questions for the guest; as well as ensure that the guest of honors are well fed. The Day of Coordinator works directly with the Matire d’ to ensure proper timing of the day events to keep the schedule on time and stress-free  (with the Maitre d’ directing the venue staff and the Day of Coordinator directing the wedding or event vendors).

A lot of time the venue will say that the Maitre d’ can handle a lot of the tasks that a Day of Coordinator would normal take care of, however this is outside of the scope of their role and they will always take care of the venue responsibilities first.

Sometimes, the venue also comes with a Bridal Attendant. This person exclusively handles the needs of the couple, sweetheart table and the family or bridal party tables.  The Bridal Attendant ensures the VIPs are well taken care of and have lots to eat and drink throughout the night. Sometimes they may be in charge of setting up the escort cards and basic wedding items as well. Both the Maitre’ D and Bridal Attendant are usually assigned to a wedding the week of the event, and don’t meet the couple for the first time till the day of.

620763_427571887303188_2030598873_o

The Wedding Day Coordinator (DOC)

A Wedding Day Coordinator is hired to work the day of the wedding and guide you through the planning process prior to the big day. The nice thing about DOC’s is that they work for the couple, not the venue. They are responsible for everything on the day of giving you the Peace of Mind that you need so you can ultimately enjoy your day. The DOC is person who keeps the wedding as stress-free as possible ensuring that all emergencies or mishaps are taken care of so the day is seamlessly brought together. The DOC is the person who ensures that the VIP wishes are carried out and oversees everything from the ceremony to the reception, directs the vendors, answer the guests’ questions, and makes sure that all your concerns are tended to.

Some of our responsibilities as a Wedding Day Coordinator are, but are not limited to: setting up and styling the venue, setting up your place cards and gift table, adding any extra decor elements that you planned all the way to making sure everything is ready for the ceremony. Some other responsibilities include making sure all the vendors are onsite on time, prepared and fully briefed of any important wedding day details, directing guests to their seats, distributing the bridal flowers to the bridal party and family, lining everyone up for the ceremony processional, giving your musicians queues, wrangling up family and friends for photos, bustling the bride’s gown, facilitating the formalities of the event, packing up all of your decorations and gifts at the end of the night and making sure all guests safely leave for the after party. We do this all while making sure the day is going according to plan and taking care of any issues without bothering the bride and groom. We become the point person on the wedding day for vendors and other staff. and hand out final payments and tip envelopes as well.

The biggest myth about a Wedding Day Coordinator is that “you don’t need one”. This is simply not true and can actually be the best investment you make for your wedding. Many couples don’t realize how many large and small details come together to make a wedding day a complete success. A wedding coordinator is there to ensure that all is well!

Hopefully this post  was helpful in explaining the difference between the roles of a Venue Manager, the Maitre’D, and a Wedding Day Coordinator, and why having just a venue coordinator is not enough. The wedding coordinator is a vital role when it comes to your wedding day and provides many benefits beyond just the day of.

 XOXO ~ Carla
